Billion-Zloty Modernisation of the Czachówek Wschodni – Pilawa Line Begins

PLN 1.3 billion, 35 kilometres of modernised railway line and a new double-track bridge over the Vistula – this is the scale of one of the largest railway investments currently being delivered in Masovia. The project on the Czachówek Wschodni – Pilawa section, delivered by a consortium including Trakcja S.A., will improve the safety, capacity and reliability of the railway in the south-eastern part of the region.

Trakcja S.A., as a member of a consortium with INTOP Infrastruktura Sp. z o.o., INTOP S.A. and WKS Grybów Sp. z o.o., has signed with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. a contract worth PLN 1.3 billion for one of the largest railway investments in Masovia. The subject of the contract is the design and execution of construction works on line C-E 20, on the Czachówek Wschodni – Pilawa section, which also include the construction of a new railway bridge over the Vistula.

The project is of significant importance for passengers, operators and residents of the south-eastern part of Masovia. After the works are completed, passenger services will be restored on the entire modernised section. Passenger and freight trains will be able to reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. Line no. 12, connecting Skierniewice with Łuków, also serves an important function as a freight bypass of Warsaw.

The scope of the investment includes the modernisation of the track layout together with the track formation, the reconstruction of the overhead contact line, the construction of linear drainage and the modernisation of level crossings. New road layouts and passenger facilities will also be built in five locations, including in Czachówek, Góra Kalwaria and Osieck. At Góra Kalwaria station, new technical buildings will be built, including a signal box building and an office building.

An important element of the contract will be the installation of modern railway traffic control equipment. Computer-based station interlocking equipment will in future enable remote traffic control on railway line no. 12 from the Local Control Centre in Pilawa. Safety along the route will also be improved by new level crossing signalling devices at eight level crossings.

The task provides for the construction and reconstruction of 40 engineering structures, including culverts, two underpasses beneath the tracks at Góra Kalwaria and Czachówek stations, five viaducts and six bridges. The most important structure will be a new double-track railway bridge over the Vistula in Góra Kalwaria. It will replace the current steel truss bridge from 1954, with an operating length of 622 m. The new structure will be built next to the existing crossing, and the existing bridge will be dismantled once the works are completed.

Completion of the works is planned for 2029.

For Trakcja, which has been building railway lines and bridges without interruption for 76 years, participation in this undertaking means drawing on the experience gained in delivering the most demanding railway investments, spanning many disciplines – from track works and the overhead contact line, through engineering structures, to railway traffic control systems. This is a task that requires good and efficient organisation, technical competence and contractor responsibility, and at the same time will translate directly into a more efficient and more reliable railway with the highest safety parameters” – says Stefan Bekir Assanowicz, President of the Management Board of Trakcja S.A

This is another major railway project involving Trakcja currently being delivered in Masovia. The Company is also involved in the modernisation of the Warszawa Wawer – Otwock section on line no. 7. Together, the two tasks reinforce one of the important transport corridors of the region, improving travel conditions, safety and the possibilities for running rail services in the south-eastern part of Masovia.
