More efficient transport and better urban space – Trakcja wins further contracts in Łódź
Trakcja S.A. has signed two contracts for the reconstruction of Warszawska and Franciszkańska streets in Łódź. The investments will improve the operation of public transport, and residents will gain more convenient routes for pedestrians and cyclists as well as more functional urban space. The total value of the contracts is PLN 75.7 million net.
The works will include the modernisation of tram and road infrastructure, the reconstruction of underground utility networks and the construction of new pavements, pedestrian and cycle routes and stops.
“Łódź has been consistently developing its public transport for years, and we are pleased to be part of the next stage of these changes. Both contracts require combining Trakcja’s various competences and efficient cooperation between many teams. Our task is to deliver them so that the new solutions serve residents for years, while the works disrupt the city’s daily life as little as possible,” says Bartłomiej Cygan, Member of the Management Board and Technical Director of Trakcja S.A.
Warszawska Street
On Warszawska Street, Trakcja will rebuild around 2.3 km of tram track – from Łagiewnicka Street to Wycieczkowa Street – together with the turning loop and the overhead contact line. The investment will also include an underpass beneath the tracks, road works at junctions, the reconstruction of underground infrastructure and the construction of new stops, pavements and pedestrian and cycle routes. New planting will complete the surroundings.
Franciszkańska Street
On an approximately 900-metre section of Franciszkańska Street – from Szklana Street to Inflancka Street – Trakcja will rebuild the road structure and the technical infrastructure. New pavements and pedestrian and cycle routes will also be built, and new planting will complete the space along the street.
The works on Warszawska Street are scheduled for completion by 31 May 2028, while the reconstruction of Franciszkańska Street will take 10 months from the signing of the contract.
“The reconstruction of Warszawska Street and the renovation of Franciszkańska Street will be Trakcja S.A.’s ninth and tenth projects in Łódź, respectively. Both investments concern neighbouring streets, but each requires a different approach because of the formula under which it will be delivered. On Warszawska Street – which will be delivered under the design-and-build formula – after the design stage we must combine track, overhead line and road works with the reconstruction of utility networks and the construction of the underpass. On Franciszkańska Street the scope is more focused, but the delivery time is shorter. The main scopes are the reconstruction of the water supply network and the renovation of the street. In both cases, proper sequencing of the works and coordination between the individual disciplines will be important,” says Piotr Kozela, Contract Director at Trakcja S.A.
