Warszawa Główna Reopened to Passenger Services

After a break of more than 20 years, Warszawa Główna station will once again fill with travellers. Trakcja PRKiI has signed a contract worth PLN 80.7 million net for the comprehensive reconstruction of the facility, after which the station will be reintegrated into passenger train service. As part of the investment, the station’s existing track layout will be rebuilt (four main tracks along the platforms and a fifth connecting track for locomotive run-round of locomotive-hauled trains). The project also provides for the reconstruction of the overhead contact line and the construction of two island platforms with spot shelters. The facilities will be fitted with modern lighting and small architecture elements, and adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility. The investment also includes works in the telecommunications and drainage disciplines and railway traffic control.

Additionally, to increase passenger safety, a pedestrian and cycle footbridge will be built over the station’s tracks, linking Aleje Jerozolimskie with ul. Kolejowa. The square in front of the station entrance from ul. Towarowa will also undergo a thorough transformation: 15 Kiss&Ride parking spaces, 10 taxi stands and bicycle parking will be created, and an area with benches, dynamic passenger information boards and ticket machines will be set aside.

After completion of the investment, Warszawa Główna will take over a significant part of agglomeration traffic and become an important interchange hub around the modern office and commercial complex due to be built in Wola.

The project will be completed within 18 months from the date of signing the contract.
