Trakcja S.A. Has Strengthened Its Presence in the Łódź Region. Ninth Contract Signed!

On 21 August 2024, Trakcja S.A. and the Municipal Investment Board of the City of Łódź (Zarząd Inwestycji Miejskich – Miasta Łodzi) concluded a contract for the project “Extension of al. Śmigłego-Rydza and construction of a tram and bus loop at the intersection of ul. Niższa and ul. Śląska”.

Under this task, the extension of national road no. 14, al. Marszałka Edwarda Śmigłego-Rydza, is planned on the section from the intersection with ul. Gen. Jarosława Dąbrowskiego to the intersection with ul. Władysława Broniewskiego, as well as of ul. Niższa from Broniewskiego to Śląska. More than 1 km of road and about 1.25 km of tram track will be rebuilt, of which almost 150 m will run on a new alignment, forming the beginning of the future construction of a tram track along ul. Broniewskiego. The reconstruction will cover carriageways, pavements, a cycle path and the tram track that has been out of use for several years. In addition, the old loop at ul. Śląska will be renovated, and a special bus lane will also be added there. There will be new lighting and traffic signals, and there will be no shortage of greenery and small-scale architectural elements (street furniture).

The project is part of a broader EU undertaking aimed at integrating the low-emission public transport network in the Łódź metropolitan area. About 30% of the rebuilt tram track will be built as a so-called “green track”. This is a modern, ecological solution that reduces the noise emitted by trams, filters exhaust fumes and lowers the ambient temperature.

The task, with a net value of more than PLN 62 million, is scheduled to take 17 months.

Over the last two years, the Road and Bridge Branch of Trakcja S.A. has completed, or is continuing to carry out, eight tasks in the Łódź Voivodeship. The Company was responsible, among others, for the reconstruction of Plac Wolności in Łódź and the extension of the road and track layout of ul. Ogrodowa – Północna, and is currently working on the access road to the S-14 expressway, which is intended to improve transport on the Złotno/Teofilów estate in Łódź.
