Trakcja PRKiI to Modernise the Control System of a Tram Line in Toruń

Miejski Zakład Komunikacji in Toruń (the municipal transport company) and Trakcja PRKiI S.A. have signed a contract to modernise the control system of the cross-city tram line adapted for low-floor rolling stock. Thanks to the investment, worth nearly PLN 7 million net, the reliability of urban rail transport will increase in a city of nearly 200,000 residents.

Under the contract, Trakcja PRKiI S.A. will design and modernise the control system of the cross-city tram line in Toruń. The works will be carried out at the traction substations: “Centralna” at ul. Rynek Wełniany 6, “Wschodnia” at ul. Wschodnia, “Zachodnia” at the junction of ul. Reja and ul. Broniewskiego, and at the base in the depot at ul. Sienkiewicza. The substations will be equipped with devices enabling their automation and adaptation for remote control. Fibre-optic connections linked to the existing and planned telecommunications network will also be created.

The primary aim of the works is to raise the reliability of urban rail transport through the use of remote control systems providing full control over the operation of equipment at the traction substations. This will also make it possible to achieve significant financial savings, increase the safety of personnel at work and reduce the duration of equipment disruptions. To this end, appropriate remote control systems will be installed in the substations and in the control centre, ensuring communication between the individual facilities. All works should be completed by the end of July 2015. The tram network in Toruń has 43.8 km of single track, and most of the lines are double-track. The whole tram network is supplied from three traction substations: Zachodnia, Centralna and Wschodnia.

The bid of Trakcja PRKiI S.A., for PLN 6,946,850.00 net, was assessed as the most advantageous of the four submitted in the procedure conducted by Miejskie Zakłady Komunikacyjne in Toruń.
