Trakcja PRKiI to Build Overpass in Łódź

More than PLN 55 million net will be the cost of building an underpass that Trakcja PRKiI will deliver under a contract with PKP PLK S.A. The structure will run along ul. Niciarniana beneath the railway line between Łódź Widzew and Łódź Fabryczna stations.

Trakcja PRKiI S.A. and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe have concluded a contract for the construction of a grade-separated crossing along ul. Niciarniana in Łódź. The structure, whose variant was agreed after almost two years of consultation with the city’s residents, will run beneath the railway line linking Łódź Widzew and Łódź Fabryczna. To this end, ul. Niciarniana will be lowered over a section of several hundred metres so that trains can continue to run at the existing level. After the works at Widzew station are completed and the level crossing on ul. Widzewska is closed, it will be the most important road artery linking the northern and southern parts of the city in this area.

“We carried out the preparatory and design work while awaiting conclusion of the contract. We have extensive experience in building structures of this kind. The actual location and size of the groundwater lens, and installations not yet identified in the ground, remain unknown,” says Director Marek Kacprzak of Trakcja PRKiI S.A., who is responsible for delivery of the contract.

The works, scheduled for completion by the end of June 2016, will proceed in several stages. The most important of them provides for building a track layout enabling trains to run to Łódź Fabryczna station by 11 December 2015.
