In mid-September Trakcja PRKiI handed over for operation the modernised track layout on the odd side of Terespol station. Located on the Polish–Belarusian border, the facility is both a terminus for domestic trains and an intermediate station for international trains. Under the project, more than 7 km of track and 27 turnouts were replaced in total. The overhead contact line, power infrastructure, railway traffic control equipment, telecommunications and drainage were also rebuilt. A new signal box building of the Local Control Centre has been built at the station, equipped with computer-based equipment for the safe running of train traffic.
Passengers are already using two new platforms and the modernised underpass. Works are currently under way on the even side of the station, with no disruption to railway traffic.
After completion of the investment, the speed of passenger trains will rise to 160 km/h and to 120 km/h for freight traffic. The efficiency of use of the railway line will also increase, which will significantly improve the transport offer while reducing infrastructure operating costs.
The reconstruction of Terespol station is part of a Trakcja PRKiI contract worth more than PLN 417 million covering the modernisation of three railway stations in the Lublin Voivodeship along line E20. The Company is currently also carrying out advanced works at the facilities in Biała Podlaska and Małaszewicze.
