New Tram Contract

Trakcja PRKiI is strengthening its expansion in the market for urban infrastructure investments. For more than PLN 76.6 million net, the company will carry out the comprehensive reconstruction of the road and track layout along Krakowska Street in Kraków, on the section from Rollego Street to Dietla Street. On Thursday, 7 February 2019, a contract was signed with the Kraków Roads Authority (Zarząd Dróg Miasta Krakowa) for the modernisation of the tram tracks.

The investment provides for replacing 3.5 km of overhead contact line, rebuilding the track and platforms, and installing a passenger information system. The planned track works technology provides for a significant reduction in the noise and vibration caused by passing trams. Dietla Street will also be rebuilt on the section from Bożego Ciała Street to Augustiańska Street. The scope of the task also includes removing the anchor wires of the overhead contact line from buildings and hanging the line on stylised poles similar to those currently being installed in the historic parts of Kraków. New pavements and cycle paths will be built, and the route will gain modern street lighting. Power, telecommunications and sewerage networks will also be rebuilt as part of the task. A thorough renovation will be carried out on the Józef Piłsudski Bridge over the Vistula. In the structure, which was put into service in 1933, the bearings, some steel structural elements and most of the rivets will be replaced. The bridge will be sandblasted and painted, and will also gain illumination.

The entire investment will be completed within 10 months of the date of handover of the construction site. Trakcja PRKiI’s partner in the contractor consortium is the Spanish company COMSA.

This is yet another tram contract being carried out by Trakcja PRKiI. The company is currently modernising nearly 3 km of tram line along Warszawska and Sikorskiego streets in Gorzów Wielkopolski.

Trakcja PRKiI is among the most experienced entities in the construction and modernisation of rail transport infrastructure. The company has carried out contracts in the urban public transport segment, including for Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Lublin. For many years the company has been a manufacturer of switchgear, which forms an important part of the modernised substations supplying tram traction, including in Łódź, Olsztyn, Toruń, Kraków and Warsaw. Among contractors on the Polish market, Trakcja Group has one of the largest fleets of specialist machinery for overhead line and track works in Poland.
