Our Lithuanian Company Will Rebuild Switchgear
On 12 September 2022, our subsidiary AB “Kauno tiltai” signed a design-and-build contract with Litgrid AB and AB “Ignitis gamyba” for the reconstruction of the 330 kV switchgear of the only pumped-storage power plant in the Baltic states, the 330/110/10 kV Kruonis plant (KHAE).
The net value of the contract is nearly EUR 52 million (PLN 244,511,287.57). The start of works is scheduled for the end of May 2023 and completion for December 2026.
During the performance of the contract, all equipment, foundations and steel structures of the 330 kV switchgear will be replaced, and a section of overhead line from the 330 kV switchgear to the first autotransformer will be rebuilt. At the same time, protective relay devices will be refurbished and new control panels will be built.
The works also provide for separating the fourth generator of the Kruonis pumped-storage power plant from the first three, to a separate connection in the substation, thereby increasing the reliability and flexibility of the power plant and reducing the risk of losing the power of all generators in the event of a short circuit.
These changes will strengthen the stability of the Lithuanian electricity transmission grid and help it operate smoothly within a single grid with Western Europe.
The Kruonis pumped-storage power plant is an energy storage facility for the entire Lithuanian power grid – providing 94% of reserves.
