Kędzierzyn-Koźle Link Road Opened Ahead of Schedule – Trakcja S.A. Delivered the Largest Road Investment in the City’s History
On 30 May 2025 the official opening took place of the new road link in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, connecting the Blachownia estate with the Northern Bypass (Obwodnica Północna). The investment was carried out on behalf of the Municipality of Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Importantly – the completion of the works took place ahead of the contractual deadline, and the defect-free final acceptance took place as early as 15 May 2025.
The scope of work covered the construction of 2.6 km of class G road with two roundabouts, a bridge and a viaduct 304 m long over the Gliwice Canal and the Kłodnica river, as well as wildlife crossings. The works also included storm sewerage and retention tanks, the reconstruction of gas, power and telecommunications networks, and the installation of modern lighting and monitoring.
Design challenges, such as optimisation of the bridge structure or a change to the road’s vertical alignment, were successfully resolved by Trakcja’s engineering teams. The use of Corten-type steel in the bridge structure not only gave the structure a distinctive appearance but also ensured durability without the need for painting.
The opening ceremony was attended, among others, by the city mayor Sabina Nowosielska, representatives of the Ministry of Development, city councillors, and representatives of the contractor – Trakcja S.A. The symbolic ribbon cutting took place to the sound of the city’s bugle call, which underlined the significance of the event.
– This is a special day and I am very glad that we can celebrate it in such distinguished company – said Mayor Nowosielska. – We had a very good contractor, the company Trakcja, and I am proud that today we can put into use the largest road investment in the history of Kędzierzyn-Koźle – she added.
Emil Ochnio, Director of the Road and Bridge Branch of Trakcja S.A., stressed: – This is a project that required from us not only high engineering competence but also flexibility in action. Thanks to the commitment of the whole team, we managed to complete the investment ahead of time, while maintaining the highest quality standards. I thank all employees and partners for their contribution and professionalism.
The scale of the undertaking is impressive:
104,500 tonnes of embankment material,
11,600 tonnes of asphalt,
7,600 tonnes of concrete,
698 tonnes of steel structure.
The value of the contract was more than PLN 56 million net, part of which was subject to indexation. The project was co-financed at 85% from funds of the Ministry of Development.
The new route will significantly improve the city’s transport network, diverting heavy goods traffic from the centre and from the Blachownia, Piastów and Sławięcice estates. Thanks to it, residents have gained a direct, fast and safe connection to the A4 motorway.
