Kauno Tiltai, a Lithuanian company belonging to Trakcja Group, has signed a contract worth nearly PLN 199 million for the comprehensive reconstruction of the railway line on the Plungė-Šateikiai route.
The project provides for the modernisation of an existing track 13.9 km long and the construction of a new one, parallel to the designated route. In addition, engineering structures will be renovated: bridges and culverts, as well as the storm sewerage network and ERTMS system equipment. At the Plungė and Šateikiai railway stations the track layout will be rebuilt to adapt it to handling longer trains and thereby improve passenger comfort. Additionally, new noise barriers and protective fencing will be built along the renovated route. As a result of the works, passenger trains will be able to speed up to 160 km/h, and freight trains to 120 km/h.
The entire project will be completed within 38 months.
The project will contribute to increasing the capacity of the transport route between Vilnius and the port of Klaipėda.
