The new platform near Niciarniana Street is taking its final shape. The relocation of numerous utilities conflicting with the tunnel under construction is under way.
Works are speeding up in the area of Niciarniana Street in Łódź. A tunnel under the tracks is being built there, which will relieve road and pedestrian traffic in this part of the city, together with a new platform with comprehensive infrastructure for passengers and residents.
Last year, a relieving slab measuring 19 m x 30 m and 0.6 m thick was constructed, supported on three rows of sheet piling driven into the ground to a depth of 9.5 to 15 m. Three of the 4 tracks leading to Łódź Fabryczna have already been laid on the structure. The tunnel being built below, with two lanes for road traffic, provides for pavements for pedestrians on both sides.
At present, surface slabs are being laid on the 250 m island platform, and the installation of lighting columns has been completed. Removal of earth masses has begun from the platform for the construction of a staircase that will ultimately connect the platform with the pavement inside the tunnel. In addition, work is under way to rebuild numerous utilities present on the site of the investment. During the construction of the tunnel, the routes of the following must be changed, among others: two gas networks – low- and medium-pressure, several low- and medium-voltage power lines, a water supply network and four sanitary and storm sewer lines, as well as four telecommunications trunk lines belonging to various operators.
