On 28 September, Poland’s first energy storage facility, produced for Energa Operator S.A., was officially launched. The innovative storage units were installed at a wind farm in Pomerania, in the Puck area. It is the first investment of its kind in Poland and the second in Europe.
The energy storage facility will create a so-called local balancing area, which is one of the most important innovation issues in ensuring energy security. It serves to accumulate reserves of power generated by wind farms and to release it in periods of higher demand for electricity.
The task was carried out by a consortium of companies led by Qumak S.A. Trakcja PRKiI’s responsibilities included, among other things, the design and production of battery racks and disconnector cabinets, as well as the layout of the individual devices.
The product was awarded a cup by the Chamber of Commerce for Energy and Environmental Protection (Izba Gospodarcza Energetyki i Ochrony Środowiska) at the Energetab 2016 trade fair.
