After a 24-Year Break, Passenger Traffic Returns to Warszawa Główna Station
The station, which for almost 20 years after World War II served as Warsaw’s main railway station, welcomed its first passengers on 14 March 2021 after a break in operation lasting many years. Warszawa Główna is ultimately to take over regional services from directions including: Łódź Fabryczna, Skierniewice, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Piaseczno, Dobieszyn, Łowicz and Sochaczew, relieving the other Warsaw railway stations.
Despite minor inconveniences resulting from the pandemic, but also from the fact that we received the building permit decision in July 2020, and given temporary problems related to designing proper water drainage, Trakcja, maintaining a good pace of work, has built:
4.25 km of new track
6.5 km of new overhead contact line
Using for this purpose:
25,500 tonnes of ballast
7,000 prestressed concrete sleepers
510 tonnes of rails
22 sets of turnouts
14,000 sets of fastenings (spring clips) SB-7
Putting two 350-metre platforms into service does not mean the definitive end of all works. Trakcja will continue works on the construction of a footbridge intended to connect Aleje Jerozolimskie with ul. Kolejowa, shortening travel time between Ochota and Wola. The footbridge, whose steel structure will weigh nearly 260 tonnes, is planned to be handed over around July this year.
