Trakcja in a Consortium to Build a Railway Line from Gdynia to Kościerzyna

The beginning of autumn has proved exceptional for our Company. A third signed contract has joined our order portfolio.

On 20 September 2024 a consortium of companies: Trakcja S.A., Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe sp. z o.o., Zakład Robót Komunikacyjnych DOM w Poznaniu sp. z o.o. and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. concluded a contract for the design and execution of construction works on railway line no. 201 on the Somonino – Gdańsk Osowa section.

The scope of the task includes, among other things:

• Modernisation of over 28 km of railway line no. 201,
• Construction of a second track, which will increase capacity and allow more trains to run,
• Electrification of the line, enabling the routing of electric trains, which will have a beneficial effect on environmental protection,
• Reconstruction of platforms at the stations and stops: Kiełpino Kartuskie, Borkowo, Żukowo, Żukowo Wschodnie, Pępowo Kartuskie and Rębiechowo,
• Construction of a new railway viaduct in Barniewice over the line of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway (Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna),
• Construction of a pedestrian underpass beneath the tracks in Żukowo,
• Installation of new or additional equipment at two level crossings in Kiełpino, increasing the level of safety,
• Installation of a new railway traffic control system, ensuring the smooth and safe running of train traffic.

Ultimately the speed of passenger trains will rise to 140 km/h (currently 120 km/h), which will translate, among other things, into a 12-minute reduction in travel time on the Kościerzyna – Gdańsk section. Freight trains will run on the new line at speeds of up to 100 km/h (currently 80 km/h).

The task is being carried out under the project “Works on the Kościerzyna – Gdynia Section”, together with the electrification of railway line no. 229 under the project “Works on the Glincz – Kartuzy Section – Phase II”.

The value of the works will be PLN 1,253,589,722.58 net. Completion of the construction works is planned for 2027.
