Trakcja PRKiI is the general contractor for the road overpass in Rogowo. The structure, opened to traffic on 11 December, was built in just half a year and resolved one of the key transport problems on the road linking Łódź with the Warsaw – Katowice route. The construction was filmed with a special time-lapse camera.
The construction works on the overpass were recorded by a camera taking a photograph every hour for almost the entire duration of the works. In this way nearly 7 thousand photographs were collected, from which a “time lapse” film was made, unique on the scale of road and railway investments in Poland.
The structure was built at the site of a level crossing on the Warsaw – Łódź railway line, one of the busiest in Poland. More than 100 trains pass along it every day. For this reason, during peak traffic periods the barrier was lowered up to 10 times an hour, which for years had been a key obstacle on this route. Before construction of the structure began, the contractor prepared the documentation and the necessary permits were obtained, after which a number of preparatory works were carried out, such as building almost 900 m of diversion road and a temporary level crossing. Founding the overpass, which weighs over 4,300 tonnes, required strengthening the ground with almost 200 columns installed to a depth of 14 m. Tasks requiring train traffic to be suspended were carried out during short night-time breaks, so passengers experienced no disruption during the works. Construction of the structure, almost 48 m long and designed for the highest load class, began in spring this year and was completed in October 2014. After technical acceptance, the first cars drove over it on 11 December 2014.
