Trakcja Group to Expand Section of Via Baltica
Ab Kauno Tiltai, a Trakcja Group subsidiary from Kaunas, has signed a contract for the expansion of the Kaunas–Marijampole road, which is part of the trans-European network.
The contract that Ab Kauno Tiltai concluded with the Lithuanian Road Administration (Litewski Zarząd Dróg) under the Ministry of Transport and Communications is worth more than PLN 134 million net. The contract provides for the expansion of 61 km of the E67 road (Via Baltica) on the Kaunas – Marijampole section.
The aim of the works is to raise the level of safety and to bring the road section up to motorway standards by: widening the carriageway over a 6 km section, building a new 2 km lane, reconstructing junctions, and building overpasses and pedestrian footbridges at several locations. In addition, noise barriers and street lights will be installed at selected points, and pavements and cycle paths will be built. Via Baltica, which is part of a trans-European transport corridor, runs through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and serves as the most important road link between the Baltic states.
The works are scheduled to take 9 months from the date of signing the contract.
