Łódź Trams with Modern Power Supply

Trakcja PRKiI has delivered three traction substations for Łódzkie Tramwaje. All the facilities have been equipped with devices produced by the Company.

In Łódź, the tram lines in the areas of Śródmieście Południowe, Widzew and Olechów are powered from traction substations located on ul. Piłsudskiego, ul. Parowozowa and ul. Hetmańska. The first two facilities have been comprehensively refurbished and equipped with modern devices, while the substation on ul. Hetmańska is a new element of the tram network, built from scratch.

Each substation is part of a modern system powering the tram traction network over a length of several kilometres. They are comprehensive, unattended facilities connected to the central power dispatching centre, ensuring high reliability in operation. Each substation comprises several dozen devices, the core of which is an MRT-06 type switchgear designed and manufactured by Trakcja PRKiI S.A. The switchgear has been successfully used in the power supply systems of many tram lines in Poland, including the new tram network in Olsztyn launched last year. In total, 3 DC switchgear assemblies, 3 medium-voltage switchgear assemblies, 7 rectifier units, 3 compact rectifier units and 2 connection points were installed in all the facilities – 63 cabinets in all, filled with modern electronics.

The substation buildings have been comprehensively protected with, among other things, alarm systems, monitoring and air conditioning maintaining optimal working conditions for the equipment located inside. The value of this contract was more than PLN 10.5 million.
