PLN 15 Million for Trakcja PRKiI for Additional Works at Łódź Widzew Station
In Łódź, Trakcja PRKiI S.A. is currently carrying out two investment projects: the modernisation of Łódź Widzew station and the construction of the depot facilities of Łódź Agglomeration Railway (ŁKA). Bearing in mind the need to make the railway infrastructure available to ŁKA, and after precisely locating the depot facilities now under construction, a geometry was developed that makes it possible to handle ŁKA trains without any negative impact on the services of other operators. In addition, the geometric track layout provides for freight traffic, including out-of-gauge consignments, to run without affecting passenger traffic.
For ŁKA’s operational needs, headshunt tracks were also designed towards the eastern switch area and along line no. 16. The adopted track layout solution allows freight trains with out-of-gauge loads to pass freely and without conflicts, with no need to shunt the trains. It also enables ŁKA trains to enter and leave onto the tracks of the line towards Łódź Fabryczna, as well as onto the tracks of line no. 540 towards Łódź Chojny station and onto the track of line no. 16 towards Zgierz station. It also makes it possible to avoid shunting trains at the station and rolling stock crossing the station towards individual platforms. The adopted solutions will significantly improve rolling stock shunting and shorten the time needed to prepare trains for departure.
The value of the contract, concluded at the end of February, is PLN 15,469,388.14 net, PLN 19,027,347.41 gross, and the works covered by it will be completed by 30 September 2015.
