Trakcja Group to Build a Barrier on the Border

In connection with the migration crisis at the borders of the European Union, the authorities of the Baltic states, like the authorities of Poland, have decided to build physical barriers on their borders with Belarus in order to secure the external border of the European Union. Last Friday, the Lithuanian government commission overseeing the installation of the physical barrier on the Lithuanian–Belarusian border approved the contractors for the construction of the second stage of the fence.

Thanks to the decision of the Lithuanian authorities, on Monday, 29 November, AB Kauno Tiltai, a Trakcja Group company, together with its consortium partner, concluded two contracts with UAB “EPSO-G” (an entity with the participation of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania) for the execution of works on a physical barrier in the Republic of Lithuania on the external border of the European Union, and related services, as well as any additional works and services whose necessity emerges during the performance of the contracts.

The contracts provide for the construction of the barrier on sections 100 and 70 km long, while its total length will be almost 400 kilometres. The total net value of the contracts concluded is EUR 33,914,635.73 (PLN 159,337,741.59), of which the amount due to AB Kauno Tiltai will be EUR 16,957,317.87 (PLN 79,668,870.82).

The companies will start work on the border in December and complete it by September next year, representatives of the Lithuanian government said in a statement.
