On Friday 18 November, in the presence of Mr Andrzej Bittel, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, representatives of Trakcja S.A. signed with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. a contract for the implementation of an investment task under the project “Works on the E20 railway line on the Siedlce–Terespol section, Stage III – LCS Terespol”, consisting in the design and construction of an extension of the track layout at Biała Podlaska station and at Małaszewicze station.
The investment prepared by PKP PLK S.A. will contribute to significant improvements in rail freight transport, increasing its competitiveness, and, by clearing the tracks, will also have a positive impact on passenger transport. Passenger safety will also improve, among other things as a result of the construction of an underpass beneath the tracks at Biała Podlaska Wschodnia station.
Under the contract concluded, Trakcja has undertaken to prepare the design documentation necessary for the proper execution of all construction works and to obtain for it all required opinions, agreements, approvals, conditions, decisions and permits. In total, ten tracks will be designed and built at Biała Podlaska station and three tracks at Małaszewicze station. The stations concerned will be adapted to handle heavier and longer freight trains, reaching as much as 750 metres in length. The contract provides for the construction of a dozen or so kilometres of track in total.
It is a very important investment – stressed Andrzej Bittel, Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure – more tracks mean more efficient and flexible operation of freight trains, bearing in mind that passenger transport is the priority.
At the signing of the contract, Trakcja S.A. was represented by Mr Artur Szumisz – President of the Management Board, General Director, and Mr Jakub Lechowicz – Member of the Management Board, Director for Internal Audit; for PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. the contract was signed by Mr Krzysztof Pietras, Director of the Central Region of the PKP PLK Investment Implementation Centre.
The value of the concluded contract is approx. PLN 123 million net, and its implementation will last until 2024.
