TRAKCJA PRKiI responsible for famed project in Wrocław

Trakcja PRKil to build two new arch bridges in 24 months for PLN 70 million in Wrocław. The company signed a contract with Inwestycje Wrocławskie sp. z o.o., representative of the Municipality of Wrocław on 7 May.

The new Chrobry Bridges with fascinating arch structure will conform to the historical architecture of Wrocław and the nearby Szczytnicki park. The local community will enjoy them in 24 months.

The two Chrobry Bridges, Northern and Southern one, are composite-deck structures with arched spans. Their total length will be 229 m. They will connect districts of Wrocław, Zalesie and Sępolno with Swojczyce. The Southern Bridge over the Flood Control Channel is a 154-metre long steel, multi-span, continuous structure with two arches 54-metres long each and a central span 25 metres long with a slab deck and reinforced concrete abutments. The 75-metre long Northern Bridge over the Navigational Channel is a steel, single-span structure with arch span length of 52 metres, a slab deck, and reinforced concrete abutments and supports.

The complexity of the contract lies in its comprehensive scope. It covers construction of two bridges on voivodeship road No. 455, which is an important transport route, its upgrade from the intersection with Monte Cassino Street to the intersection with Mydlana Street including design, bridge operations, road works, network, overhead power system, and so on. The effort will be crowned with an impressive illumination to emphasise the unique atmosphere of Wrocław.

Trakcja PRKiL has substantial experience in bridge structures. It built several hundred of them in its 70-year history. The recent ones include a bridge on the Działdówka, corresponding in form to the Chrobrego Bridges, two bridges in Zbąszynek, 40 metres each, an overpass in Klęczany on the state road No. 4 that are 62 metres long, or the 186-metres long overpass in Sędziszów Małopolski consisting of seven spans. From 2012 to 2015, we built ten railway bridges, 14 railway grade-separated junctions, and one road overpass on the railway line Wrocław–Grabiszyn–Skokowa. The effort involved such operations as the demolition and construction of a railway bridge over the Oder in Wrocław near the Popowice station and reconstruction of railway grade separation junctions over Grabiszyńska and Popowicka Streets. Trakcja PRKil was the General Contractor and consortium leader for the project.
